Iceland Ambassador To India Celebrates WOW air’s Maiden Flight From New Delhi

WOW air’s maiden flight took off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, recently and with that the Icelandic purple airline has commenced its operations in India.

The airline will operate three weekly flights from New Delhi, connecting passengers to North America and Europe through their hub in Iceland (KEF).

To commemorate WOW air’s inaugural direct Iceland-India flight and 100th year of sovereignty , Guðmundur Árni Stefánsson, Ambassador of Iceland to India, threw a grand party at his residence in New Delhi which was attended by diplomats and who’s who of India.

Iceland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson also graced the occasion.

“We are excited to commence operations from New Delhi. The response we have received from India has been overwhelming and we hope to continue this trend going forward. Our ultra-low fares reflect the need for affordable travel from India to transatlantic destinations and has also given an opportunity for Iceland to open up to the world as a tourist destination for the Indian travelers”, Kiran Jain, Managing Director of WOW air said in an official statement.

The airline was established in November 2011 by Skúli Mogensen, an entrepreneur, and investor, primarily in the technology, media, and telecom industry in North America and Europe.

WOW air serves a number of destinations from New Delhi including Chicago, Orlando, New York, Detroit, Baltimore, Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Washington DC, in the US; Toronto & Montreal in Canada and Reykjavik in Iceland.
